Elections under the Bylaws imposed without member approval are underway. Pacifica Fightback has joined the larger Pacifica Mission Coalition in endorsing a slate of national candidates as the elections require an absolute majority for each seat on the Pacifica National Board and the same majority can fill all the seats.

We are backing Dr. Julianne Malveaux for PNB Chair, Perri “Mama PK” McCary for Vice-chair, Donna Carter for Secretary and Kamau Harris for Treasurer. Staff members from all five stations will elect two PNB staff directors — we support Ninel Centeno and Sally Gellert. Each station’s listeners will also elect a station director. At KPFA, we support, Cheryl Davila; at KPFK, Michael Novick; at KPFT, Vi PatelAdams; and Michelle Tingling Clemons at WPFW. The list is still in formation at WBAI.

The deadline for nominations is June 30. National officer candidates need 100 nominations, coming from at least 3 stations, to qualify for the ballot, which will go out in August. Staff directors need 10 nominations from other staff members. Station directors need nominations from 50 listeners at their station.

At each station there will also be simultaneous elections for Local Station Board officers and staff representatives, with the same June 30 deadline for nominations.

You can only use the nomination form once, and must make ALL your nominations at that time. You can only nominate one person for each office. Check on the pro-democracy, pro-diversity, pro-community candidates for your Local Station Board officers as well.

The people who imposed the new Bylaws are well-endowed and set up the elections to favor their faction having total domination; they are seeking to centralize and nationalize the management, governance, and finances — and eventually the programming, as they did when they shut down WBAI and replaced its local programming with “Pacifica Across America” mostly from KPFA and KPFK, and as they have been doing at KPFK, where local programming has been replaced with shows from KPFA and nationally syndicated programs.
